Lake Mead National Recreation Area
Location Map Well-developed talus cones have formed on the flank of an unnamed hill near the Bowl of Fire Overlook near milepost 18 on the Northshore Road. The hill consists of Early Permian-age sedimentary rocks (undivided Hermit, Esplanade, Toroweap, and Kaibab Formations) on the the lower flanks, capped by dark brown, cliff-forming sandstone Moenkopi Formation of the early-to-middle Triassic age. The talus cones grade down slope into creosote bush-covered alluvial fans that feed sediments into Callville Wash (Tingley and others, 2001; Beard and others, 2007).
