| This view is looking across Utah Highway 191 near the entrance and Visitor Center parking area at Arches National Park. A construction cut along the highway exposed a series of small normal faults offset gently dipping beds of sandstone, marl, and mudstone of the Cutler Formation (of Baars, 1989). The slope beyond the cut consists of, in ascending order, Moenkopi Formation (dark reddish brown slope), Chinle Formation (gray and red, slope forming shale with some sandstone beds), and cliffs of Wingate Sandstone. |
