Bright Angel Trail
This view is along the Bright Angel Trail along the Colorado River in Inner Gorge. It shows steeply-dipping layer-like dikes of pink granitic rock within the darker metamorphic rock (mostly schist and gneiss) of the Precambrian-age Vishnu Basement Rocks exposed in the cliffs on the opposite side of the river. The top of the Inner Gorge in this view is capped by Unkar Group (Bass Formation, Hakatai Shale, and Shinumo Quartzite, from oldest to youngest respectively, as mapped by Billingsley, 2000).
