Kaibab Trail
View of the South Kaibab Trail where is descends through the base of the massive cliffs of the Redwall Escarpment. The Redwall Limestone of Mississippian age rests unconformable on a surface of older Paleozoic-age sedimentary rocks (Devonian- age rocks and Cambrian-age rocks where the Devonian section is locally missing). Along the South Kaibab Trail, the Devonian-age Temple Butte Limestone is difficult to differentiate from the overlying Redwall Limestone because the rocks have a similar appearance and the Temple Butte generally lacks clearly identifiable fossils (Beus, 1987).
