Canyonlands National Park
This view along the Potash Road shows the gentle structure of the Cane Creek Anticline. Strata consist mostly of siltstone and sandstones of the Cutler Group (of Baars, 2000 usage) (Late Pennsylvanian to Permian age) that crop out along the Colorado River in this region. The gray strata in the mid ground are fossiliferous marine shale beds of the Honaker Trail Formation. The red siltstone in the foreground is Elephant Canyon Formation. Both the Honaker Trail and Elephant Canyon formations are of Pennsylvanian age (Baars, 2000). The La Sal Mountains are in the distance.
