Lake Mead National Recreation Area
Location Map Black Canyon of the Colorado River cuts through a rugged landscape mostly of Tertiary-age volcanic rocks and locally, metamorphic rocks (schist and gneiss) of Precambrian age. The Black Mountains are on the Arizona (east) side of the canyon, and the Eldorado Mountains on the Nevada (west) side of the canyon (Beard and others, 2007). This zoomed-in view is looking south from the east side of Hoover Dam.
