| The escarpment beyond this palm grove at the Thousand Palms Oasis is the fault scarp of the Mission Creek Branch of the San Andreas Fault. The eroding bluff consists of Quaternary-age alluvial fan sediments that have been pushed up by tectonic motion along the fault. |
