This view along the Bright Angel Trail is looking up at the massive cliffs of the Coconino Sandstone from the talus-covered slope underlain by the Hermit Shale. Snow highlights switchbacks along the trail where it ascends an alluvium-covered slope that masks the trace of the Bright Angel Fault (as mapped by Billingsley, 2000). Note that the Coconino Sandstone is slightly lower on the left side of the gap because of offset by the fault. |
