| This mule train is returning to the rim on the South Kaibab Trail. The daily traffic of the mule trains and hikers going to Phantom Ranch contribute to the break down of the soft, red, clay-rich sediments of the Hermit Shale and Supai Group. Especially in wet weather trail conditions can seriously trail conditions to deteriorate. Trial crews are continuously maintaining and repairing the heavily used major trails in the park. |
