Kaibab Trail
View of the South Kaibab Trail where it descends down the slope of the Toroweap Formation. The trail experiences heavy traffic from both hikers and mules carrying both people and supplies for Phantom Ranch. The green leafless plant next to the trail is Mormon tea (Ephedra viridis Coville) (USDA, 2010]). Cliffs of Kaibab Limestone in the distance rise above the forested slope where the sedimentary beds of the Toroweap Formation are mostly covered with colluvial deposits (soil and weathered rock debris from the cliffs above)(Beus, 1987).
