This view is looking directly east of the Strike Valley Overlook toward the Tarantula Mesa and Henry Mountains in the distance. Mesaverde Formation underlies the tree-covered Tarantula Mesa which rests on the underlying gray rocks of the Mancos Shale. The southern Henry Mountains (in the distance) included from left to right are Mt. Pennell, Mt. Hilliers, and in the distant right, Mt. Holmes.
