USGS Earth Science Photographic Archive digital file: hjk00847 Massive cross-bedded layers in the Navajo Sandstone are a testament to the extensive sand dune fields that existed in the Utah region during the Jurassic Period. The dune fields probably rivaled those in the modern Sahara or Arabian deserts in scale.
