Big Bend National Park
View of Casa Grande, an eroded remnant of a igneous intrusive body in the Chisos Mountains. The Chisos Mountains are an erosional remnant of the Sierra Quemada Caldera, a large intrusive and volcanic eruption complex that formed about 34 million years ago (Deux and others, 1994). This view is from the Lost Mine Trail. The trail begins at the pass between Green Gulch and the Basin along the Chisos Mountains Basin access road.
