Lava Beds National Monument
This view is looking south from an overlook along the main park road at Gillem Bluff. The Devils Homestead Flow, a young blocky ("a'a") lava flow is in the foreground. Schonchin Butte is a well-developed volcanic cinder cone on the left horizon. Additional cones and features in the Lava Beds National Monument and surrounding Modoc National Forest are part of the Medicine Lake volcanic field in northern California (Donnelly-Nolan, 1990).
