Angular unconformity in Colored Canyon
This view shows the angular unconformity between the underlying reddish sandstone and conglomerate of the Mecca Formation (Pliocene) and the overlying tan and gray sandstone of the Canebrake Formation (Pleistocene) (Sylvester and Smith, 1987). Creosote bushes grow in the foreground. This location is in a side canyon about one-half mile downstream from the parking area at the end of Painted Canyon Road.
