Coachella Valley Preserve
Smoke trees (Psorothamnus spinosus) grow in many of the streambeds in the Colorado Desert environment (USDA, [2010b]). They occur throughout the Coachella Valley and in washes in lower areas within Joshua Tree National Park. The pale-blue and brown stick-like leaves of the plant give it a smoky character. It produces purple flowers in June.
