| The Banning Fault strand of the San Andreas Fault system forms this west-facing escarpment along the west flank of the Indio Hills near the Willis Palm Grove. Creosote bush thrives on the gravel-covered upland area of the Indio Hills. In this view, older Pliocene basin-fill sediments (Imperial Formation, yellow on left) are faulted and juxtaposed next to younger Quaternary alluvial gravels on the right. |
