A small cave with a natural arch in weathered granite in the
Barker Dam area displays many petroglyphs (images carved in rock) and pictographs
(images painted with mineral paints). The symbols attributed to prehistoric
American Indians include bighorn sheep, snakes, trees, and other familiar
images in rock-art panels elsewhere in the region. Some of the graphics
appear to have been modified in recent times. Note the rattlesnake petroglyph in this image. |
