Clouds on San Jacinto Peak
This zoomed-in shot from Keys View shows the snow-capped San Jacinto Peak hidden in clouds (late December, 2003). The town of Palm Springs is the dark green area at the base of the peak. The Indio Hills in the vicinity of 1000 Palms are the low brown hills in the middle of the Coachella Valley. The Indio Hills are an uplifted block (a horst) between two strands of the San Andreas Fault (the Mission Creek Fault on the east side, and the Banning Fault on the west side)(Matti and Morton, 1993).
