This diorama is part of the When Worlds Collide when European fur traders and explorers started interacting with Indian tribes in the Ohio region in historic times. Indian settlements at Fort Ancient and along the Little Miami River valley were reported by early explorers. These settlements vanished as land exploitation, disease, and warfare pretty much annihilated Ohio's native Indian populations as European colonization gradually impacted the greater Ohio region. By 1850, all the remaining Indians in Ohio were relocated to reservations in Kansas and Oklahoma. The Federally recognized Miami Tribe in Oklahoma are considered descendants from the tribes in the southern Ohio region. |
