View of the Little Miami River valley and the I-71 high bridge.
Fort Ancient covers the hilltops at about 245 to 260 feet above the Little Miami River. The hilltops are actually part of the larger erosionally-dissected plateau (a regional glacier plain) in this region of Ohio. The Little Miami River is entrenched in a canyon that formed as the Laurentide continental glacier retreated (melted back) from southern Ohio roughly about 14,000 years ago. This view from Fort Ancient shows the Jeremiah Morrow Bridge where Interstate 71 crosses the Little Miami River Valley. The Jeremiah Morrow Bridge is a continuous truss bridge and the tallest bridge in Ohio, crossing 239 feet above the river. The Ohio Highway 350 bridge across the Little Miami River is partly visible as well in the lower right.
