A stone-covered mound in Fort Ancient Memorial Park
Fort Ancient has four stone-capped mounds, similar to this one. The stone covered mounds are arranged in a square with spacing about 512 feet apart in the North Fort. These stone-caped mounds appear to be oriented with gaps in the outer wall structure, and are interpreted to be a sighting locations for tracking solar and lunar cycles. These siting features were likely used in association with ritual ceremonies related to harvest, hunting, and cultural and religious practices, etc.
