Type Locality:
Not designated. Named for exposures on north face of Hoskinnini Mesa, several miles west of Oljeto Trading Post, Moonlight Wash, Navajo Co., AZ (Baker and Reeside, 1929).
Unit Name History:
Named as upper tongue of Cutler Formation (Baker and Reeside, 1929). Revised, reassigned as basal member of Moenkopi Formation (Stewart, 1959). Revised, raised to formation rank (Blakey, 1974). Areal limits; Revised, interfingers with and is age-equivalent to lower part of Black Dragon Member of Moenkopi; Age modified to Early Triassic (Huntoon and others, 1992).
