Type Locality:
Vicinity of Chisholm Mine and Half Moon Gulch, 2 to 3 mi northwest of Pioche [Pioche 7.5' quad], Lincoln Co., NV (Walcott, 1916).
Unit Name History:
Named as Chisholm Shale; Biostratigraphic dating (Walcott, 1916). Adopted (Westgate and Knopf, 1932). Revised; Redescribed as Chisholm Formation; Areal limits (Hintze, 1980).
