Chaco Culture National Historic Park
Chaco Culture National Historical Park is located near the center of the San Juan Basin in northwestern New Mexico. The park in the high semiarid desert is best known for its masonry puebloan ruins of ancient cities and villages along Chaco Wash. "There are nearly 4,000 recored archeological sites within the park" (NPS, 2010). The Chaco Canyon area is one of the most extensively studied archeological sites in North America. The Chaco Museum Collection "contains over 1 million artifacts and nearly 900,000 archival records" (NPS, 2011). This view in late afternoon light is looking southwest from near the park campground along Gallo Wash toward Fajada Butte.
