Alcove in Painted Rock
Both the alcove interior and the exterior sides of Painted Rock have prehistoric rock-art paintings and carvings. Its drawings consist of animals, humans, anthropomorphic figures, horned figures, stars, grids, and other geometric shapes and animals including birds, lizards, snakes, and insects. The rock art consist of red ocher, black, and white mineral painted pictographs (paintings) and petroglyphs (carvings) (Grant, 1971; Chartkoff and Chartkoff, 1984).
