Pinnacles National Park
This zoomed-in view of the Balconies Cliffs (from the High Peaks Trail) shows multiple layers exposed in the cliff. Each of the layers represents a different eruption episode in the formation of the volcano. The more massive, cliff-forming layers probably represent larger, massive explosive eruptions that formed blankets of welded tuff due to the lava was still in a semi-molten state when it was deposited on the flanks of the volcano.
