View of the opposite shore of the Scioto River in the vicinity of Hopeton Earthworks. Reflection of trees on the still river water.
This view is looking across the Scioto River in the vicinity of the Hopeton Earthworks (on the opposite side of the river).

The Hopeton Earthworks site encompasses 292 acres on the river terrace on the east side of the Scioto River (across from Mound City Group). The site consists of border wall earthworks in the shape of a 20 acre square, a 20 acre circle, smaller circles and parallel walls extending to the river. The parallel walls were constructed to align with the sunset of the winter solstice. (See a NPS map and information about the site.)
