Earthworks and ditches in Fort Ancient Memorial Park
Small umbrella-shaped plants called may apples grow on an Indian mound near a water-filled ditch and wall earthworks along the border of Fort Ancient. Archaeologists suggest that the as much as one to three feet of soil has eroded from the earthworks since they were constructed. Visitors are not permitted to walk on the mounds or earth walls in order to help preserved them.
