Click here to start a tour of the park, as seen through a series of 34 "restored" 3-D images. Most are well-known landmarks as they were photographed in stereo. The original stereo cards presented here were purchased in Mammoth Hotsprings, Wyoming Territory in 1916.

Click here to see the same tour in standard black and white stereographic images. The tour begins at Old Faithful and proceeds in a clockwise route around the park.

The images used in this website are scanned from original stereographs that were purchased as souvenirs by Emma Sanor (from Minerva, Ohio) while visiting Yellowstone in 1916. The stereographs are therefore older than that date (and have hence expired their copyright). Stereo photography became extremely popular starting in the early 1880's. The oldest date for any of these original images was about 1884. Individual pages can be clicked on below.

The images used for this website were made from original stereographs (black and white stereo pairs) that were scanned and manipulated into anaglyphs (3-D images) with image processing software (Adobe PhotoShop). You will need red-and-cyan stereo viewing glasses to get the 3-D visual effects.

Check out my first field guide I made at the age of 6 after a family trip to Yellowstone in 1964.

The "recent" photography on this website was taken in 2006. This website contains images produced from stereo photo pairs that were manipulated into anaglyphs (3-D images). You will need red-and-cyan stereo viewing glasses to get the 3-D visual effects.
