| This cavern along the Red River Trail is locally know as AC Cave ("air conditioned"). AC cavern formed along a vertical joint (fracture) that cuts through the limestone and carbonate-rich mudrock of the Slade and Borden Formations exposed near the Red River. The cool air draining from the cave is a welcome relief to hikers during both hot and very cold weather. |
