The massive cliffs around Kealakekua Bay are part of a escarpment created by a massive landslide that descended off the flank of the Big Island into deep sea. The landslide likely created great tsunamis that affected the shores of the other Hawaiian Islands in prehistoric time (USGS, 2008). |
