Pinnacles National Park
Hawkins Peak can be seen from the Condor Gulch Trail. The rhyolite breccia in this area appears unstratified and may have been one of the eruptive source areas of the volcano. The rock in the High Pinnacles area has a volcanic breccia-tuff texture. It formed from massive, explosive-style eruptions, with lava domes forming, more similar to modern rocks formed by Mount Lassen or Mount St. Helens-style eruptions than the calmer, hotter, more fluid lava eruptions typical of Hawaii's volcanoes.
