This view is looking upstream toward Sipapu Bridge. The erosional forces that sculpted the natural bridge gave it a natural stable arch geometry. This great size and span of the arch suggests that it took many thousands of years for it to reach its current appearance (Huntoon and others, 2000). The bridge itself consists of a massive tightly cemented layer of sandstone which will, hopefully, allow it to endure for many more thousands of years. This view shows the broad, upper valley surface where the prehistoric White Creek Valley with its meandering stream existed before the modern period of stream incision began. |
