Late spring snow covers the Paradise Inn on Mount Rainier's southern flank. Winter seasonal snowfall near the summit of Mount Rainier ranges between 300 and 500 inches with now depths in the range of 10 to 25 feet. The highest annual snowfall recorded anywhere in the United States (1,122 inches) was on Mount Rainier (National Park Foundation, 1991). This volume of snowfall maintains the active glaciers on the volcano's summit area. |
