A large kiva at Far View Ruins in Mesa Verde National Park. Note the bench along the side along the base of the kiva. The kivas in the puebloan ruins probably originally had roofs with ladder access and ventilation shafts (Cyark.org, 2009). Holes and structures along the sides of the kiva may have had ceremonial or spiritual significance. |
