Sun Temple is located on the end of a ridge between two canyons at the head of Cliff Canyon. The Sun Temple is built on top of the mesa rather than on one of the overhangs (alcoves). The original purpose of the Sun Temple is unclear, but archeological investigations suggest that the site was used for ceremonial purposes, not inhabitation (Yandell, 1987). The structure has been stabilized and partially restored so it is accessible to the large numbers of visitors that visit the ruins each year. |
