Most cliff house dwelling in Mesa Verde National Park are closed or have limited access in order to protect the archeological resources. Only a few of many hundreds and possibly thousands of dwellings in the region have been stabilized or partially restored. Only small numbers of sites are opened each year for investigation. This allows time to pass so that new investigation methods and theories can be tested on undisturbed sites. Ancestral Puebloan ruins are considered sacred sites, particularly to the living descendents. |
