| This is a close-up view of tafoni-style weathering of the massive, cross-bedded sandstone exposed along the Chester escarpment. This form of exfoliation weathering (called taphoni or boxwork) is common on old exposures of sandstone throughout the Kentucky region (Ettonsohn and others, 2010). |
