Lake Mead National Recreation Area
Location Map This view of from the shore of Lake Mead from the South Cove Picnic Area shows the reservoir's "bathtub ring" left behind by high-standing levels of the reservoir in years past. This section of the lake is called Gregg Basin and lies between the South Virgin Mountains of Nevada and Grapevine Mesa of Arizona. Gregg Basin is a broad section of the Colorado River Valley between Iceberg Canyon (upstream) and Virgin Canyon (downstream). Both canyons are now flooded by the reservoir.
