This zoomed-in view across Callville Wash shows the bright red sandstone of the Early Jurassic-age Aztec Sandstone in the Bowl of Fire area. The ridge-forming brown sandstone in the foreground is the Rainbow Garden Member of the Horse Spring Formation (middle Miocene). Muddy Peak (to the distant left) consists of sedimentary rocks (mostly shale, limestone and dolomite) of Cambrian, Devonian, and Mississippian age (Tingley and others, 2001; Beard and others, 2007). This view is from the Bowl of Fire Overlook near milepost 19 on the Northshore Road. |
