Jewel Cave National Monument
Jewel Cave as visible in the lighting the National Park Service has provided to the public tour portion of the cavern. Only a small fraction of the cavern is open to the general public. However, research scientists and cavern explorations specialists have mapped over 150 miles of passages (Burnett, 2010). Jewel Cave ranks as one of second longest known cavern systems in North America, second only to Mammoth Cave.
