Hot Springs National Park
Novaculite, layered and massive chert (gray to white) with thin shale beds (dark gray). This outcrop is located in the historic Hot Springs and spa area. Note that it was at one time it was thought practical to cover the outcrop with cement!. It is now a popular geology field trip destination to examine this outcrop. Novaculite is the "State Stone" of Arkansas.
