View of a Y in the Shawnee Lookout Trail where it starts a loop path amongst the ancient earthworks at Shawnee Lookout
This view shows a fork in the path of the Miami Fort Trail. The trail passes through the ancient ceremonial grounds in the forest at Shawnee Lookout Park. The Adena and Hopewell typically did not live within the borders of the ceremonial grounds, but rather in hamlets or small village sites in nearby locations, such as along the higher terraces along the rivers and streams in the area.

A park display sign states:

“Hopewell Village Scene - The Hopewell Indians lived in small villages, or hamlets, which were composed of family groups. Their square or rectangular houses probably housed more than a singe family."

"Domestic chores included manufacturing of utilitarian tools such as scrapers, spear points, awls, and the making of pottery, preparation of clothing, construction of ceremonial artifacts and primitive farming.”
