It is interesting to ponder how much work, by how many people and how long, it must have taken to clear the forest and move so much dirt (using nothing but primitive tools and hard labor) to create such earthworks. These ancient people also had to feed, shelter, and protect themselves. The amazing artifacts found at these locations show that individuals had rolls as skilled craftmen. And all this was going on at other locations throughout the region roughly 2,000 years ago. It must have involved strong governance and social/religious orders.
