Unusual artifacts collected in the Hopewell (Adena) cultural sites like at Fort Ancient reveal some insight into possible cultural beliefs and symbolisms of their times. What is perhaps most remarkable is some of the materials used to make pipes, statues, and apparel items are made from sea shells and stone and rock that were obvious traded from sources as far away, such as ornamental items made of mica that was original mined from possible sources the Rocky Mountains or Appalachian Mountains (shown here on the right).
