Grand Canyon
The pueblo at Tusayan Ruin was originally constructed around 800 years ago. Museum and trail exhibits focus on daily life in the area about 1185 AD. The site was abandoned by about 1250 AD during a time when regional drought and associated conflicts forced many of the ancient pueblo cultural groups to migrate out of the region or assimilate into one or more of the modern regional pueblo cultural groups or tribes. The Tusayan Ruin was named by archeologists who partially excavated the site in the 1930s (NPS, [2010]). The ruins are one of most heavily visited archeological sites in the national park system. Unlike many other regional archeological parks, no attempt has been made to reconstruct the site (beyond trail maintenance and site stabilization).
