Tamarisk, an exotic species introduced as an ornamental shrub to the desert southwest in the early 1800s. They have since spread along the river banks of the Colorado River system. They now crowd the beaches such as this one near the mouth of a side canyon up river from Lees Ferry in lower Glen Canyon (Plant Conservation Alliance, 2009). |
