Salt Creek
Small natural pools like this one teem with pupfish in the spring. By late summer the stream can dry up. During the late summer some of the pupfish survive by hibernating, buried in mud in the last remaining deepest pools along the streambed. Salt Creek pupfish (Cyprinodon salinus) are one of four species of pupfish found in isolated water sources in the Death Valley area (NPS, [2010c]).
