| The word "Goldbelt" is carved in a large granodiorite boulder in upper Marble Canyon. This historic engraving is probably part of an unfullfilled mining claim to the canyon. The Panamint Mountains have yielded gold in the past and were home to several "boom to bust" mining communities. |
